About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Brooklyn at 7224 5th Ave, Hazar Turkish Kebab offers an authentic taste of Turkey through a vibrant and carefully curated menu that spans Turkish, Mediterranean, and fast-casual dining. This Turkish restaurant and kebab shop delivers an inviting atmosphere where hospitality and rich flavors intersect, making it a cherished gem for locals and visitors alike.

At Hazar, the culinary journey begins with an array of captivating appetizers that awaken the senses—the crisp, golden calamari with a garlic sauce, the delicate sigara borek pastry rolls filled with tangy feta, and the warm, herb-infused falafel that perfectly balance texture and flavor. Among these, the Icli Kofte, wheat bulgur stuffed with spiced ground lamb and pine nuts, stands out as a testament to the depth of traditional Turkish cuisine offered here.

Fans of grilled meats are treated to signature delights like the Chicken Shish Kebab and Lamb Shish Kebab, both grilled to perfection, juicy and tender, their smoky aroma melding beautifully with fresh sides like peppers and fluffy rice. Seafood lovers will appreciate options such as the char-grilled Bronzino, a whole Mediterranean sea bass served with Hazar’s special sauce, or the lemon-marinated, perfectly grilled salmon and shrimp skewers. Each bite reveals authentic flavors enhanced by expert seasoning and care.

The restaurant also boasts comforting staples like hearty lentil soup and the unique Turkish Manti, a delightfully tender dumpling dish that melts in the mouth. For those craving lighter fare, the Chicken Giro rice and salad offers a balanced, satisfying meal. Guests returning time after time—even under new ownership—consistently praise the consistency and authenticity of Hazar’s food, underscoring its reputation as a neighborhood favorite.

Hazar Turkish Kebab shines brightest not just through its dishes but its welcoming atmosphere that encourages conviviality and warmth. Customer feedback highlights more than just the menu—the owners and staff extend genuine hospitality, creating a familial vibe that complements the rich, mouthwatering food. Whether sharing a meal with parents, friends, or enjoying a quiet lunch, diners feel valued and well cared for.

No Turkish feast is complete without dessert, and Hazar delivers with classics like the shredded pastry Kunefe oozing with melted cheese and honeyed syrup, silky pistachio pudding, the caramelized Kazandibi milk pudding, and the ever-popular Baklava, each bite layered with delicate sweetness and flaky texture that perfectly punctuate the meal.

Overall, Hazar Turkish Kebab stands as a beacon of authentic Turkish flavors and warm hospitality in Brooklyn. Its diverse menu, featuring dishes like the addictive lentil soup, juicy chicken adana special, and crème-de-la-crème desserts, combined with attentive service, ensures a memorable dining experience that both resonates deeply and satisfies completely. Hands down the best Turkish restaurant in Brooklyn in my opinion. I've been coming here for years and have never been disappointed and I understand the restaurant is under new ownership currently and the food was exactly how it always was. The mixed grill is perfect for my low carb diet and I left very satisfied.

What an amazing experience with my parents. The food was delicious, also had a great vibe and the owner and the family were very hospitable. I saw the family cooking food that is authentic and was very flavourful. My parents were impressed & very happy with everything and enjoyed the experience.

I've been here a few times in the past 3 years and I went today with my mother for lunch, and I was not dissapointed. We both ordered the lentil soup and chicken adana special and it definitely hit the spot. The soup was delicious and the kebab was cooked well and it was juicy. I just wish that they would update the interior of the restaurant. It looks very outdated and even a little run down in my opinion. It doesn't help that they have competition in the neighborhood, such as Istanbul Bay on 80th Street and Ay Kebab on 86th Street. Both of them also have renovated interiors and serve food that is up to par with Hazar. But if I'm being honest, the employees at Ay Kebab acted like they didn't want to be there the last time I ate there. Speaking of employee attitudes there was a cashier/waiter at Hazar that was extremely friendly and courteous so they have that over Ay Kebab. I haven't been to Istanbul Bay in Bay Ridge in over three years but I remember the workers being friendly and their lamb and rice tasting great. Sorry for rambling so much but my point is you should definitely give Hazar a try, especially if you're craving turkish food on a budget.

The food here is absolutely delicious! We've been three times, and every visit has been worth it. Each time, we tried different dishes, and they were consistently excellent. The place is clean and well-organized, which adds to the enjoyable atmosphere. The highlight, though, is the amazing service—especially from our server, Osman, who truly made our experience memorable.

Not much atmosphere but really good food. This is my go-to spot. If you get any sandwich or platter, make sure you get the homemade Turkish bread. The fried calamari is always light and tender. The pides are delicious.
